I’m a loyal 2K fan. I’ve been fortunate enough to have access to the NBA 2K21 next-gen version for a while and to experience all kinds of modes. Here, I will introduce 5 aspects of the Next-Gen that will significantly improve the game.
The City
With next-gen, The City will stand in for the Neighborhood. It’s a deeper and better performing version of The Neighborhood and takes players around 45 minutes to explore it entirely, making it an experience worth checking out as soon as possible.
1). Rookieville will be where those new to NBA 2K21 will start their journey. Once you reach the requisite action, you’ll be able to progress into The City.
2). Boroughs will be divided into four distinct areas — North, South, East, and West — to be controlled by each of the new Affiliations.
3). Event Centre will be the heart of The City, hosting key events and competitions.
4). Garage Hoops are hoops hidden across the city, where you can simply stop and have a shoot around at. Players passing by can also join in, either for a casual shoot around, or for a casual game of 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or HORSE.
5). People Of The City will be a quest/objective giving NPCs. Every 4-6 weeks, new objectives will be added.
6). The Gatorade Training Facility will be the “mecca” of MyPLAYER physical training. The second floor houses a great new feature in The City: Rental Courts.
7). Special Courts will offer a couple of full-sized courts for 4v4 and 5v5 matches.
8). There will also be Fire Ball, with which a literal ball that is on fire will be used when your team wins 10 games in a low on Affiliation courts.
9). Pink Diamond Plaza will be decked out in fluorescent lights and with music orchestrated by a resident DJ, Pink Diamond Plaza hosts the entirety of the MyTEAM Triple Threat Online experience.
10). Apparel Stores will stock the likes of Nike, Jordan Brand, Adidas, Under Armour, Puma, and many more.
Animations
With next-gen consoles, it’s taken to another level and gamers can experience some of the smoothest animations in a sports game, let alone NBA 2K. Watching the players and objects move on the court is an amazing visual. The game simply flows in a way that is captivating and adds to the overall sense of immersion when you are defending a game-winning shot or running out on the fastbreak.
Also, the developers add some more unique animations to the game. This includes some new animations for alley-oops, which are incredibly satisfying to pull off.
Graphics
NBA 2K21’s graphics get a facelift in its next-gen version. Already regarded for its high-level recreation of the NBA’s biggest stars, there is a noticeable step up in quality. The lighting is better, and the faces look much more lifelike. Some of the characters in cutscenes still look a little rough, but the players themselves look better than ever. Sweat is the typical joke pointed at as an expression of graphical improvement in sports games, but in NBA 2K21 that’s simply the salty tip of the iceberg.
Speed & Weight
The next-gen version of NBA 2K21 does a great job at communicating the difference in weight and speed of players. Each athlete runs, jumps, and handles the ball differently, which helps add to the level of depth and strategy whenever players step out onto the court controlling their favorite player or team.
Shooting Feels Balanced
One of the biggest issues many users had with the current-gen version was associated with the shooting. To put it plainly, most of the 2K community struggled to shoot. Part of the complaints could be chalked up to whiners who simply want things easy, but another portion of it was legitimate. On the next-gen version, 2K seems to again have found the balance based on community feedback. The shot meter is larger, and there is still a way to use shot-aiming, but with even more control than before.
